Edmonton Oilers vs Minnesota Wild Video Highlights

The game started out good for the Oilers, but once the Hemsky injury happened, that was it for the mighty Oil.  While they did manage to keep themselves in this game and make it to overtime and ultimately the shoot out, it was a stinker to have to sit through.

Khabibulin played pretty good tonight.  He sucks puck handling, but in the actual goal crease where you stop pucks, he played well.  1st star for the Oilers.

Magnus Paajarvi was also pretty good.  He plays with wisdom. In his own right, he's a special player.

Ryan Smyth scored the Oilers only goal in regulation. His first of the season, and his first back as an Oiler.

An Oilers Summer... (New Numbers, Khabibulin, Nugent-Hopkins)

Man this off season seems to be taking forever! Here is the news of the week.

----------------------------------------------------

Yesterday the big news rolled out and I got fired up. No, not the Khabibulin going to jail story, but the new Oilers players decided which numbers they are going to wear for the 2011-12 season.

Pretty sad that numbers gets me fire up. Haha!

Theo Peckham as we all know is changing to #24. That's a number that he likes to wear and now that he's part of the team, full time, he's going to wear it.

Cam Barker took the unusual #13. I figured he would have chosen #2 or #8. Cogliano was the best, IMO, to wear #13 and it sure didn't bring him any luck. Let's see what happens with Barker this year.

Big Andy Sutton chose to stick with #25. If I recall, he's worn that number often in his career.

Eric Belanger has decided on wearing #20. Good number for him. He's worn a few different numbers over the years including #25 that Sutton took. BTW, put Eric Belanger into google search and look at the pictures. *my eyes are burning* The girls will like it.

Big Bad Ben Eager is going with a familiar number. Once again, he takes #55. No surprise here.

Darcy Hordichuk is the only player who hasn't chosen a number yet. I'd guess he takes #21.

------------------------------------------------

OK, I'll talk about Nik Khabibulin now. I have read the tweets and blog posts about this situation and it pisses me off. Don't give a criminal sympathy. Screw him and his deal now. This was dragged through the mud for months and months and in a roundabout way, tarnished the good name of the Edmonton Oilers. This would have been done with over a year ago if he just would have taken his punishment and moved on. I do not feel bad for him right now. I just wish the punishment was longer for wasting everyone's time.

He is to spend 15 days in jail and 15 days at home with a monitoring bracelet. He is also to undergo alcohol treatment.

I respect those who admit what they did wrong. While he admits it now, it's too late. Respect is lost...

-----------------------------------------------

I am in the camp that figures that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will be an Oiler this season. He will make the team. He couldn't be worse than Cogliano was on the dot. And he sure can't be worse than JF Jacques skating around out there. Make #93 a part of this team ASAP.

Viktor Fasth Future Oilers Goalie?

Bob Stauffer said today on Oilers Lunch that there is a good possibility that the Oilers send Nik Khabibulin down to the minors (OKC Barons) next season. Who will replace him with the big club? Viktor Fasth is the name he said.

Who in the hell is Viktor Fasth? No idea...

Apparently he won goalie of the year (Honken Trophy) in the Elitserien league this season. In the this years playoffs he has a 1.78 GAA and a .945 SVS. Not bad numbers at all. What did he do in the regular season? In 42 Games Played he's earned a 2.26 GAA and a .925 SVS. Again, really decent numbers.

He's 28 years old and was born in Kalix Sweden. He's listed as 6'0" and 198lbs.

Tambellini was there watching him not long ago and maybe Stauffer is right. Maybe this will happen? But you never know as Fasth is signed to play one more season with AIK. Read it here.

Stay tuned...

Story Lines For Tonight / Oilers vs Kings

Los Angeles Kings (43-26-6) at Edmonton Oilers (23-41-11)

- As we all know, Dustin Penner is facing the Oilers tonight in what should be an emotional game for Penner. He went through a lot with the Oilers and while no doubt going to the Kings was refreshing for him, this game should bring back the memoriesm (good and bad) that he's had with this hockey club. It will be interesting to see him in a Kings jersey.

- Rod Phillips is calling it a career after tonight's game. This will be his last game ever for the Oilers. After 37 years he's finally walking off into the Arizona sunset. I'm going to miss Rod and the way he calls games. He truly is a classic element of the Edmonton Oilers organization. Good luck in the future Rod, Oil Country loves you!

- Nik Khabibulin will get the start in net tonight. Not sure why. Dubnyk needs the development time so why waste 60 minutes on a drunk bag of bones? Pfft! WE WANT DUBNYK!

- The same lines as last game are expected to be iced tonight.

- Watch for the Kings Jarret Stoll to score the game winning goal tonight. He's scored 2 out of 3 goals in this season series so far. Can he go 3 for 4?

GOILERS!!!

Roster, Roster, Roster! The New Look Edmonton Oilers

Here is the Oilers roster before the big change. Steve Tambellini had a very busy summer and did quite a lot of work around here.
LAST YEAR OILERS ROSTER

He did some real wonderful stuff like getting rid of the three terrible Oilers from last year, Ethan Moreau, Patrick O'Sullivan and Robert Nilsson.

He managed to re-sign all the Restricted Free Agents that were needed to be signed, except Cogliano. From the reports that I have heard, Cogliano's camp has a contract and they, so far, have not signed. It's completely in their court now. Just sign the damn thing and have a great year to prove them, and us, wrong.

The Oilers still seem hell bent on running the team this year with a bunch of rookies and it's looking more and more like I am wrong. I said that Hall and either Pääjärvi or Eberle would be on the team. It does appear like all three have a legitimate chance of making the team. Training camp should be fun, especially if you throw in Linus Omark. That's four potential rookies on the roster. Can't wait to see what happens.

Tamby signed Martin Gerber for more than just insurance reasons. That is one hell of a deal and a two way contract to boot. Gerber will be called upon more than once this year so this one will end up being a great signing.

I suppose the biggest shocker was the Potulny/Pouliot walking. I was a little shocked that they weren't brought back. I really liked Potulny and I thought he played well enough last year to get another shot this year. I guess it wasn't meant to be.

I never really liked Pouliot, but still didn't think the Oilers would give up on him like they did. He did deserve a real solid chance that MacT never gave him.

Ryan Stone also left and went south (to Calgary). He also played well IMO, and once again, it will be strange to see an ex-Oiler in a fLames (I'm looking at you Glencross) uniform.

Mike Comrie was left to leave as well. The New Mrs. Duff has just signed with the Penguins so good luck to him.

--------------------------------------------------

So let's now take a look at the roster that the Oilers might start the year with.

Oilers Jambalaya / Random Thoughts, Not The Website

This (Oilers Jambalaya - The Random Stuff) is a column that I started when this little blog started up. I only did it a few times (but I liked it) and it kind of faded away for some reason. But what the hell? It's back.

Mmmmmm.... Jambalaya

Oilers Rookie Development Camp is going on right now down at the Clareview Arena till Friday. It goes from 10:00am till 12:00pm. The place gets packed so if you are going, go early. For all the latest news and info regarding the camp, stay tuned to Oilers Jambalaya. Plus we will have a special fans report from guest writer Steve Schulte a little later in the day plus the LIVE tweets from http://twitter.com/_gelsomino.

Magnus Paajarvi Interview From Today

Khabibulin had his court case postponed today. It appears the courts were to busy to proceed with his trial or something like that. It has been rescheduled for 2 weeks from now. If convicted, he could spend up to 30 days in jail. With a delay and other court procedures, it's possible that Khabi might miss training camp if he does have to do the whole 30 days and this does drag out longer. I would expect him to try and plea bargain.

Taylor Hall's number. What is taking so long to decide? I really do think he really waiting for #44 to get traded. I mean, become available. I hope not, it's cursed. He did say a few days ago that he would think about possibly taking either 44 or 91. God I hope he takes 91 (my choice for him is #84. He could easily be the greatest #84 in the history of the NHL) instead of the 44. *fingers crossed*

That rumor that TSN's Ryan Rishaug started is quite the conversation piece today. He thinks that if the Kings land Ilya Kovalchuk (still possible), they might be willing to part with Ryan Smyth. Souray for Smyth is what he suggested. I'll be honest, I'd make that trade right now. I would even include Cogliano. I would love nothing more than to see Ryan come back and be the mentor for the kids and finally wear the captain's C. He deserved it years ago and I believe he has a lot left in that tank of his. BRING BACK SMYTH!

Wow! The Oilers seem hell bent to have some experienced guys down in Oklahoma City for next season. They have been spending money for OKC Barons like crazy and they have only picked up a few guys so far. Just paying Alex Giroux $500,000 and $225,00 for Brad Moran is whacked out. Three quarters of a million dollars for two guys. If only I could hang out with Katz for a day. He must have $10 dollar bills in the bathroom for toilet paper. Unbelievable amounts of wasted money! I hope for the OKC Barons fans sake, these veteran AHL players are worth the cash. Defenceman Jake Taylor was also signed recently for the Barons.

I'm starting to think that Bob Funk jr. and the Barons have no say in the "hockey operations" department. It appears like the Oilers are sorting out their own problems first without considering the fact that the Barons are new and the fans were hungry for anything related to the team. Yes I did say were. The excitement is over. I don't know what they have in store next, but you couldn't beat the hype that a couple of bloggers (OilFieldHockey/CopperandBlue/OilersJambalaya) created a while back. As of this moment they are looking to sell seasons tickets. They do pay for a sponsored link on google to be found.

So here are my questions to the OKC Barons. Why is it taking sooooooooo long to pick the name the mascot winner? (My suggestion was Edmond Von Derrick) Where is your GM? (He's important to build a team) Where is your Head Coach (Kelly Buchberger??) and his Assistants? Where is your pump-up on Twitter and other social media? Where is the fan involvement? How about another live chat?

I have asked the Stockton Thunder if there has been any progress on if they will resign with the Oilers, as their current agreement is expired. So far they tell me they are working on it and they would love to still be apart of the Oilers family. I really hope they continue being apart of the Oilers organization because here at Oilers Jambalaya, we are going to ramp up our coverage of the Stockton Thunder starting this season. So I will keep you posted if an agreement is reached. We hope so.

**Cool new changes at Oilers Jambalaya and over at OilFieldHockey.com are coming soon.
We can't wait for next year to start!
LET'S GO OILERS! LET'S GO BARONS! LET'S GO THUNDER!**

Common Themes - A Look Into The Past

I would have to think with Souray coming out and speaking his mind like this about the management team is true, you really need to step back and look at things again.

Souray was quoted as saying, "I wasn’t even ready to play when I came here, but it was like, ‘We signed you, you go out and play.’ I hadn’t been cleared to play yet, but I was being questioned by the organization:‘When are you going to be able to play?’".

Wow! If this statement has any merit and it's true, then I'm shocked.

Souray also had this to say, ""I got challenged by management on the very first day of my first training camp. The very first day," he said. "They said, ‘When are you going to play?’ I said, ‘I have a six month (shoulder) injury and I’m at five months.’ But I played."

Again. Wow!

But, if you look at another player in this organization, I could see what Souray is saying as true.

Nikolai Khabibulin: He was signed in the summer as "damaged goods". The Oilers knew full well what they were getting into with Khabbi. They knew he couldn't pull a Luongo and go 70 something games. Yet, when the season started, how many games did Khabbi play before he was hurt? How many games did Jeff Deslauriers play as a backup?

Khabbi played 4 games to start the year in a row, with JDD getting in for one. Khabbi then played 5 games straight, while again, JDD plays one. Then he plays 6 and sits for one before playing 3 more and he's done for the year.

Why was Khabibulin played so much? Who made that choice? Bucky? Quinn? Tambellini? Lowe? Katz?

That was a real stupid move on someone's part and seeing what Souray said, I'd put some blame on Tambellini. Wouldn't you?

Seeing what Souray says, it all makes sense. In fact, I bet there is a lot of stories like this out there. *cough* Staios. *cough* concussion.

GRAHAM MARTIN

I am absolutely floored that you have Smid at 6, cause I would have had him at three, and Comrie at 10? I would have had him around 22. And Brule so far down the list. He would definitely be in my top ten.

25) Comrie
26) Grebeshkov
27) Nilsson
28) Moreau

Now for the combined list that includes the Beers & Jeers Points list.  So that means that there is 4 lists and only one final list.  Drum roll please...

FINAL TOTALS

1) Dustin Penner - The Best Oiler so far this season.  He's been doing everything well.  Including getting points.
2) Nikolai Khabibulin - Took off where Roli left it.  He's way better than I thought he would be.  Great at rebound control.
3) Lubomir Visnovsky - He's the best guy on the backend.  He does however make at least 1 mistake a game but usually always recovers.  He a crafty guy.
4) Sam Gagner - The little midgit started on the 4th line.  Now he's won the hearts of teenage girls and Smokin' Ray *swoon*.
5) Ladislav Smid - He's our new shutdown guy.  He's mean and aggressive and loves to give a good face wash.  One of the biggest surprises this year so far.
6) Patrick O'Sullivan - Even though he doesn't have a lot of goals, he's making the effort.  He's a good PK'er and fires a ton of shots.
7) Ales Hemsky - He's failed to come out of the blocks hot.  This is a big reason why he's at #7 spot.  But he is improving.
8) Zack Stortini - Huggy bear has been good.  He just needs to play his own game and it's benifiting him big time.
9) Gilbert Brule - He's been a big surprise. He's exceeded everyone's expectations and I for one never thought he was that crusty.  He does a lot of the little things right.  Let's see if he can keep it up.
10) Sheldon Souray - He would have been rated higher but only played 3 games.  He was pretty good in those games though.
11) Andrew Cogliano - He's been good but not great.  At times he disappears and that is his biggest down fall.  He's not consistant.
12) Tom Gilbert - From here on down the players have been not good.  Gilbert has troubles being strong in his own end.  He needs to shoot the puck more.
13) Jeff Deslauriers - He only a couple of games so it's hard to judge him.  He was ok, but not great.
14) Shawn Horcoff - One has to wonder if he can't handle the pressure that comes with that pay cheque.  He's been sub par for most of the 20 games.  He just can't seem to get points.
15) Ryan Stone - He plays with grit and heart and doesn't seem to be afraid to get his nose dirty.  But then he was hurt and that had some effect on his rank position.
16) Taylor Chorney - He was sent down to start the year and was the first call up.  He's impressed a lot of us and shows signs that he can compete in the NHL.
17) Steve Staios - Steady Steve started out not so good and has been getting better since.  He blocks shots and beats guys up, but seems like he can't stay up with the play.  Is age a factor?  I'd say so.
18) Denis Grebeshkov - He's the biggest dissappointment this year on the back end.  He's sketchy and it freaks people out when he handles it in the Oilers zone.  After a good start, he's not so good by the 20 games mark.
19) Mike Comrie - Was his pre-season show with 4 points and a fight all just a show?  I'm thinking so.  He has no stamina and can't compete well in the last half of a game.  He's not been very good at all. He's fooled me into believing in good stories.
20) Ryan Potulny - He's been fairly good.  Well, average is probably better to say.  He's not an impact player in the NHL and I don't think we think that either.
21) Liam Reddox - The red headed kid has been about the same as Potulny. Not bad for a call up.
22) Fernando Pisani - It turns out that Pisani has been troubled by his Colitus a lot so far this year.  It's too bad because I like him, but maybe his time is up with this squad.
23) JF Jacques - He started out all balls out.  Then he kind of faded.  Then he was knocked silly.  He just needs to play his style and he will be a good grit guy.
24) Theo Peckham - He didn't look anything like he did last year.  Mind you, we only seen him in limited action.
25) Jason Strudwick - I'm not sure he's even qualified to be a 7th guy.  He's slow and ackward on skates.  Funny guy... but bad at hockey.
26) Robert Nilsson - Wow this guy is so bad he's not worth even saying anything. Trade or release him.
27) Marc Pouliot - He's been injured and has not played.  But he's still better than Moreau.
28) Ethan Moreau - The team leader in Bad Timing Penalties and doesn't seem to be slowing down at all.  He's been the worst Oiler by a long shot this year.  If Quinn won't take away his "C" then Tambo better trade him.  He sucks.

- Who's Out? Who's in? It just gets worse.  Sam Gagner is out with a lower body injury.  Not sure what however.  This team is dropping like flies.  But, Dean Arsene it going to play in his 1st ever NHL game.  It's been 9 years of plugging away in the minors and now he gets his shot.  Good for him.  So Gagner, Pisani, Chorney, Grebeshkov, Jacques, Stone and Pouliot are all not playing due to injury.

FINAL SCORE

Edmonton Oilers - 2

Columbus Blue Jackets - 3

------------------

BAD TIMING PENALTY

Ethan Moreau - This may come as a shock to you, but it was the Captain once again taking the BTP honors tonight.  It was bad enough that Staios was sitting for two already, so Moreau didn't want to be outdone and decided to sit in there with him.  Well guess what?  The Jackets scored to take the 1-0 lead.  Nice job Captain.

------------------

BEERS

Ales Hemsky - You could see it in his play that he was ready for this game.  He played pretty darn good and it was nice to see.  He played 23:00 minutes and had 3 shots.  His puck movement was spot on and he seemed to try for the whole game.  See what happens when you try... you score.  How about a Frosty Black Label?  Cheers!

Nikolai Khabibulin - Once again he was a stud.  He did what he could and the game went to a shootout.  I don't know what else he could have done.  He was great. Miller Time? You betcha. Cheers!

Lubomir Visnovsky - Holy crap he's on fire tonight.  He is one of the best skating defencemen that I have seen in a long time.  He scores a goal and nets an assist.  What else des he need tonight? A beer of course. Cheers!

Sheldon Souray - He looked like he was back to normal.  He was doing the usual Big Sexy stuff like hitting people and taking shots.  He had 2 assists tonight and played the most out of all the Oilers once again.  I'm just glad he's back.  Great game Souray.  Pilsner in a glass? Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Gilbert Brule ( He played one of his best games for the Oilers this year.  He was motivated to beat these guys.), Shawn Horcoff (He's playing well with the hurt shoulder.  But if it hurts too much to take a faceoff, then why is Quinn playing you so much?), Dustin Penner (He should have had an official assist for his screen on the Hemsky goal (but won't). He played a good game.), Ladi Smid (The Spaz was solid yet again. He had 5 hits and didn't make very many mistakes.)

------------------

JEERS

Ethan Moreau - BOOOOOOOO!

Liam Reddox - Your penalty was the root cause for the 2nd PP goal by the Blue Jackets.  Not a great way to end a game. Booooo!

-------------------

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - He sucks. Trade him now! Need New Captain

(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - Didn't Play

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - That was a disheartening game to watch.  Just when the Oilers were looking like they could do well in this game, Moreau takes the BTP in the 2nd period. STUPID GUY! So with Staios and now Moreau in the box, the Jackets score to open the game and it eventually goes to Overtime and then the Shootout.  And we lose.  I'm getting sick of talking about Moreau.  He needs to go.  He drags the team down with stupid penalties and he takes no responsibility for his actions.  I've never heard he say he screwed up.  Never.  He just blames the guys around him in a round about way.  Pathetic.

As far as this team goes, they really need to buckle down and stick to the basics.  You know... Hit, shoot, score.  That type of thing.  This isn't a bad team.  It just has a bad leader.  Leadership is action... not position.  See you all Wednesday.  GOILERS!

Paq Twinn - *cloud of funky smoke rises* What? What's going on? Who's there? *cough* fLamers suck! *lies down on couch and goes back to sleep*

B&J #83 Edmonton Oilers Recap vs. Thrashers (11/15/09)

Welcome to Oilers Jambalaya - An Edmonton Oilers Hockey Blog. Beers & Jeers is a dual collaboration between Smokin' Ray and Paq Twinn. We hope you enjoy our Edmonton Oilers full game recap.

------------------

- Souray, Horcoff and Reddox all draw back in tonight.  It looks like Dean Arsene isn't going to play now that Souray is going to play.  Let's hope his headaches don't come back because of rushing into playing so quick.  He's barely practiced.

- I still cannot believe how many PPV games there are this month. It's going to kill my wallet next month when the bills come in.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

------------------

FINAL SCORE

Edmonton Oilers - 2

Atlanta Thrashers - 3

------------------

BAD TIMING PENALTY

Ethan Moreau - I usually won't tack a BTP on a guy in the 2nd period, but in this case it's fully worthy. The Oilers just scored to make it a 2-1 Oiler lead. Captain Dumb Ass takes a lazy Hooking penalty and gives the Thrashers the man advantage. What happens? They score and tie the game at 2. Way to be a leader.

------------------

Worst faceoffs - Potulny (2W-5L=29%), Penner (6W-11L=35%)

------------------

BEERS

Nikolai Khabibulin - Once again Habbi stands up and delevers for the Oilers.  It's just too bad his team stinks.  He did his best and you can't ask for much more than that. Good job.  Frosty beer? Cheers!

Gilbert Brule - By far the hardest working Oiler tonight.  He tried his ass of and did everything he could to help this team win.  Is Quinn going to finally see what we see in this guy?  He was solid.  Have a drink on me. Cheers!

Lubomir Visnovsky - Perhaps he's been quietly our best player all season.  I can only remember one bad game by him and it wasn't tonight.  He's beer worthy today. Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Laddy Smid (He played well, just not good enough for a beer.), The 2nd Line (They played well but never scored. The three of them sure can pass/cycle the puck.), Tom Gilbert (He was good. Too bad he's stuck with Strudwick.), Sheldon Souray (He seemed off tonight but played a ton. he just needs a game or two and he'll be back at the beer table with me slamming Buds.

------------------

JEERS

Ethan Moreau - I wish Tambo would do something with you. You do nothing but drag this team down and pass the blame to whatever you don't contribute to.  It's time to man up and be a leader.  20 games into the season and you have done NOTHING to make this team a better hockey club.  I'm tired of it and I'm sure everyone else is (never mind your teammates).  Take a hike loser. Boooooo!

Jason Strudwick - He's a funny and classy guy, but he sucks at hockey. He's another guy the Oilers could do without.  Booooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): The Moreau/Cogliano/Stortini Line (For a "bigger" line they sure looked slow and not tough.  I'd split these guys up by removing Moreau.),

-------------------

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - Holds up middle finger.

(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - Did not play. (concussion)

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - Talk about another sh*tty PPV game brodcast by the Edmonton Oilers.  I heard one of the reps (can't remember who?) talk about the PPV's last week on the radio. Let me say this whoever you are, THIS IS NOT ON A LEVEL OF CBC/TSN/SPORTSNET. Quit trying to pull a fast one on us.  We are not stupid fans and we know when we are getting quality. The segements during the 1st and 2nd intermission were good.  It's the rest of the content that sucked.

Ok. Actualy hockey talk now. This team sucks.  This team has no heart.  This team can't fight their way out of a paper box.  This team is in serious trouble now. It's the 20 game mark and with a record of 8-10-2, that's pretty bad.  The Oilers forgot to show up for the 1st period and then when they did decide to appear, the Captain took the BTP and allowed the Thrashers to tie it up.  After that it just seemed like the Oilers were good, but just a slight step behind.  I can only expect Quinn to roll some heads tonight and I'm expecting a better showing tommorow night.  F*^% $#%@!!! There... I feel better.

Paq Twinn - He missed the game.

B&J #78 Edmonton Oilers Recap vs New York Islanders (11/02/09)

Welcome to Oilers Jambalaya - An Edmonton Oilers Hockey Blog. Beers & Jeers is a dual collaboration between Smokin' Ray and Paq Twinn. We hope you enjoy our Edmonton Oilers full game recap.

------------------

- I apologize for missing the Boston vs Edmonton game.  I moved this weekend into a bigger house and my internet provider sucks and I didn't get it going until today.  It doesn't really matter anyways because the Oilers sucked in that game getting shutout 2-0.  Not a good score at all.  Now that I have my lifeline (internet) back, I/we won't miss a thing.

- This team is like a revolving door.  Horcoff is out.  No wait.  He's playing now and Comrie is out.  See? It's hard to keep track.  What's the deal with Comrie anyways?  Smid had the H1N1 and never missed a game.  Comrie has the flu and he's out for 10 days. *meow*

- So... I'm paying for this PPV, and no Schremp?  What a rip.

BAD TIMING PENALTY

None - Jacques going to fight Sutton for no reason was pretty close to a BTP.  What are you thinking when it's a clean hit?

------------------

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - The freaking guy scored.  What?

(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - He sucked.  I bet he doesn't last the season here.

------------------

BEERS

Ladislav Smid -  He was awesome.  I love the Spaz!  He tossed down Tavares and stuck up for himself and didn't look afraid.  I like the cut of this guys jib and so does Quinn (23:07 of ice time).  In a game where your team loses 3-1, and you end up +1, that's a good game for a defenseman.  He had 2 hits, two takeaways and 3 blocked shots.  Studly game Spaz.  Drink up, it's Miller time. Cheers!

Ales Hemsky - He really did look good.  For once he carried the 1st line and not Penner.  He did a lot out there but failed to score any points.  But that's ok, it's not his fault his line mates were crappy.  Good hustle tonight Hemmer.  Frosty beer? Cheers!

Lubomir Visnovsky - Him and his partner in crime (Smid) are turning into a solid duo.  Lubo never ceases to amaze me.  His stick work is unbelievable.  He can strip anyone of the puck (Tavares included).  He's just a great defenseman to have as an Oiler.  Beer Bong? Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Nikolai Khabibulin (He was pretty good even though the guys in front of him couldn't score.), Sam Gagner (He also played better than his linemates.  I liked how he was willing to go to the net.), Patrick O'Sullivan (He had four shots and was creating chances.  He's better than the 3rd line.)

------------------

JEERS

Denis Grebeshkov - What happened to the old Denis from the beginning of the year?  This guy stinks. And stinks bad.  -3 for the night and did nothing but bring down Chorney.  Sad dude.  Boooooo!

Robert Nilsson - Maybe you should just stay in New York.  If I was Tambo, I'd put you on waivers today.  But I'm not and I can't.  But I can boo you. Boooooooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Taylor Chorney (It really wasn't his fault.  Everyone looks bad with Grebeshkov)

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - What a waste of money.  Do the NHL and the Oilers organization really think that people should have to pay for that?  I say bring on more free Internet TV and not make us pay more than we allready do.  This team sucks right now and it better turn around soon.  Are the players complacent now because the roster is somewhat set?  Where's the urgency?  Gagner was trying hard in the last half of the game and Quinn started to put him out.  Does the team really need Stone that much?  Can the Oilers bounce back from these losses and get back on track?  I hope we find out soon.

Paq Twinn.  The poor guy has the flu as well.  At the beginning of the game he informed me that he would be missing the TweetCast tonight.  I said "What?" I couldn't let his peeps not be informed.  So as a good friend, I hacked into his Twitter account and did it for him.  Your welcome Paq.  Now you owe me. :)  Get better buddy.

BAD TIMING PENALTY

None - I'm shocked.  Are you?

------------------

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - He was completely invisible.  He played a whopping 12:06.  Even Quinn is figuring out that you suck.

(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - The worst of the kid line tonight.  He should have taken the shot a few times, but didn't.  He tried to get cute.  *shakes head* That's not very impressive.

------------------

BEERS

Dustin Penner - The big guy was a force again.  He's so freaking good right now it's scary.  He is a total old school Cam Neely type right now.  He's great.  He had 1 goal and 3 assists tonight.  Why does everyone think I'm crazy for pushing this guy on Team Canada?  Let's get hammered once again Pens.  Cheers!

Shawn Horcoff - Where was this guy all year?  Did he only need Penner to save his season?  Horcoff had 1 goal and 2 assists tonight.  He only had two points going into this game.   Look at me now he says.  Let's drink it up Horc.  Your out of my doghouse tonight.  Frosty?  Cheers!

Ales Hemsky - Hemmer is back.  He was flying out there.  He looked very happy to be with the Horpensky line again.  My only question is why did Quinn wait so long?  Hemmer had 2 goals and 1 assist.  That will add to the points total.  Killer game.  Budweiser?  Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Patrick O'Sullivan (He played his butt off.  He added 1 assist to the game.), Gilbert Brule (He sure is making a point of claiming his spot on this team.  I really like him right now.), JF Jacques (He scores the opening goal and had 3 solid hits.  Good game by Jock Strap.),

------------------

JEERS

Jason Strudwick - He sure can't take the minutes when guys go down.  3 giveaways and was a -3.  What a terrible night for him.  But let's be real, he's really our 7th guy.  Not anything better.  Brutal game Struds... Booooooo!

Nikolai Khabibulin - He was not very good.  Sure he made some nice big saves, but overall pretty stinky.  5 goals against sucks Nik.  Boooooooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): The Kid Line (A combined -9.  They looked good but they were schooled a few times in their own end.  Nilsson made this line worse.)

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - Good 1st half by the Oilers, then Detroit decided enough was enough.  They storm back and push this game to a shootout.  The Oilers are lucky for the win because it should have been a win anyways.  But a win is a win and that's all that I care about now.  Glad the losing streak is over.  It's a new dawn... it's a new day.

Paq Twinn - *coughs* Sorry folks, *cough* I'm sick, *pukes* Yay Oilers! *passes out*
