Oilers vs Canucks YoungStars Game / Watch The Entire Game Replay Here

"Roy steals the show"

Saturday and Sunday, Oiler players were tweeting and awe struck by the beauty that is called beaches. Was the way they played the result of being so relaxed, they just went out and played? I doubt it. These guys have done this before. Sure there are butterflies, but after the first 5 minutes it became a game. It wasn't til the 2nd period that the Oilers took over control of this game.

Olivier Roy was solid in net tonight. Early on he looked poised and solid. Not at all the goalie who was shaken up at last years world Jr's. Roy has been known to get rattled in his confidence. Not tonight! Later in the game when called upon, Roy stood his ground once again, even on a partial breakaway. He would continue the stellar play through to the third period. With very few shots on him early on, Roy was later be called upon to come up big again.

The two goals he let in , he could not be faulted for. On a night when you will probably read several articles on the other players, I wanted to bring attention and give credit where it was due. Roy stood strong throughout the night and that has to go a long way, as Olivier prepares to move on to the pro game of hockey. I know some may think he only made a few stellar plays, but otherwise he was just ok. Something that is missed often with a goaltender is when it looks easy....it's usually because they played well enough to make it look that way.
Before I forget, did you see his new cage? Loved it! I looked for a pic of it online but could not find one. Anyone that can locate a picture, send it my way. I need it for my computer wallpaper.

Lots of excitement to gain from last night's game, but none more then a win. Yes, I said win! We Oiler fans will take any win we can get, in any form, in any fashion. Even a rookie game. Good win for the boys. What I really liked most last night was the chemistry I was seeing as a team. I'm not going to rate any players or break down the play of each player. I am waiting til the end of the tourney before giving my evaluation and take on it as a whole. As for last night, I am going to take the next 48 hours to enjoy every moment of it.

A couple notes when we are evaluating that may be important to look at. Some of the players are older and should look much better out there playing against younger guys. Also RNH should look good, he is a #1 NHL pick. What they did last night should be expected, as well as Roy should shine. I would also add, Lander and RNH are not going to be looked and evaluated as much right now as main training camp. The Oilers just want these two young guys to get their legs under them before heading back to Edmonton to compete for a roster spot with the Oilers main squad. This tourney is a great time to evaluate the other players who could be a part of the future but seldom we get to see.

What's your impression's of last night's game? Who stood out to you? Do you have any concerns about RNH's game or maybe one of the other forwards or even a defenceman? What rookie are you most excited to see at main training camp? All I can say is, I am jacked OIL hockey is BACK!

Craig MacTavish Joins The Canucks Organization

Since parting ways with the Edmonton Oilers around 2 years ago, Craig MacTavish has been doing television work for TSN and that's about it. Well that's about to change...

Officially today, MacT was hired to coach the Vancouver Canucks AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. This isn't new news, because if you have been following the tweets on my twitter page, it was retweeted when Nick Kypreos announced it -- unofficially -- on July 16th.

I have mixed feeling about this. I liked MacT and still do. I have great respect for him and I'll always consider him an Oiler. But now, he's a Canuck? That's hard to swallow.

My feelings aside, I'm happy to see him back behind the bench where he belongs. I thought for sure he was going to be the coach of the Jets or different NHL team. Never figured he'd end up in the American Hockey League. I would assume he will have the best shot to replace Alain Vigneault if he's ever fired from the Canucks.

Good luck MacT!

4 Games For Torres Hit On Eberle / Video and Discussion

Here's the hit, you decide. Was that worth a 4 game suspension?

2 games of the suspension are the last 2 regular season games and the other 2 are the first 2 games of the playoffs. This will leave the Canucks a man short for those games.

With this suspension the NHL looks serious about changing the amount of head shots. I think this suspension is an impressive start to a new policy.

What do you think? What are your thoughts? Discuss below.

BEERS & JEERS PLAYER GRADES

The Cult of Hockey Grading System:
10 perfect game, 9 extraordinary, 8 great, 7 good, 6 above average,
5 average, 4 below average, 3 poor, 2 terrible, 1 deserves to be in minors.

#2 JIM VANDERMEER - (0) DNP (Injured)

#4 TAYLOR HALL - (3) JEERS His giveaway caused the game winning goal. Oy! He was -2 and only took 2 shots on goal. He needs to shoot more like he has if he wants to score. Not a great night.

#5 LADISLAV SMID - (4) I wasn't a fan of his tonight. He was -2 and only had 2 hits and 2 blocked shots. He could have been more physical for sure. What happened to the spaz from last year?

#6 RYAN WHITNEY - (6) He was OK. They gave him 2nd star. He scores his 2nd goal and this time it was a for sure thing. Nice shot. He played 26:43 and had 3 hits, 2 blocked shots but had 2 giveaways. The giveaways don't shock me as much anymore because he plays a ton. Bound to happen with all that ice time.

#10 SHAWN HORCOFF - (0) DNP (Injured)

#13 ANDREW COGLIANO - (6) BEERS I liked his effort ad\nd he tried hard to make things happen. He was 6/4 for 60% on faceoffs. He picked up an assist on the Whitney goal (cheesy assist as he barely did anything other than touch it as it went to Whitney. But the highlight of his game? A team high 4 hits.

#14 JORDAN EBERLE - (3) JEERS He started out good but faded into the sunset. He was very quiet on the stat sheet as he only had 1 shot. You can't be on the top line and not register anything.

#16 COLIN FRASER - (4) Hard to tell if he even played. The 4th line stunk. He had 2 shots and 2 hits and went 2/2 for 50% on faceoffs. Not much else to report on Fraser.

#22 JF JACQUES - (2) JEERS DNP. Oh. He did play? How does the so called hitter play an entire game (only 3:12 actually) and not register a single hit? The guy is useless and needs to be sent down. I'd rather much keep O'Marra and Omark then see him play one more game. Embarrassing if those two are sent down.

#23 LINUS OMARK - (3) JEERS He was not effective. His assist was a fluke that was a redirect to O'Marra and he took a dumb holding the stick penalty before that. If he wants to be an actual NHL player, I shot that was blocked and 1 blocked shot of his own isn't going to cut it. He had 2:39 in PP time and needs to make use of that. I still think he stunk, but was better than Jacques.

#26 KURTIS FOSTER - (5) He was decent. He was +1 and played 15:55. In that time he had 1 shot, 1 hit and 2 blocked shots. He needs to shoot the puck if he wants to be useful. Tonight he was just average and nothing more.

#27 DUSTIN PENNER - (6) Penner was one of the better Oilers in my opinion. He made some smart plays and started the Whitney goal with a good pass to clear the zone. But only 1 shot, and 1 blocked shot, that hardly constitutes a good game. Meh! *shrugs shoulders*

#28 RYAN JONES - (4) Another average game. 2 shots, 1 hit and 1 blocked shot. If your not going to shoot more, you better be hitting guys.

#33 STEVE MACINTYRE - (0) DNP (Healthy Scratch)

#35 NIKOLAI KHABIBULIN - (7) BEERS Again I get pissy because I'd like to see Dubnyk in more. But again, he proves me wrong. He faced 33 shots but had another 37 go his way. Lucky he didn't have to save all of them. I figured he's earn a star after that performance, but it's clear John Garrett was picking the stars tonight (he really didn't).

#40 DEVAN DUBNYK - (0) DNP (Backup)

#42 RYAN O'MARRA - (5) Scores his first ever NHL goal tonight with a lucky break where the puck ended up on his stick. He had 1 goal with 1 shot, 2 hits, 1 giveaway and 1 takeaway. The thing I liked from him the most? 3/0 for 100% on faceoffs. Why didn't he take more draws? Was Renney not informed he was sitting at 100%? Makes you wonder.

#43 JASON STRUDWICK - (5) Struds was OK. I find he's been better this go around. Since Vandermeer been out, he's been pretty good. He ended up +1 and had 3 blocked shots. He could turn up the hit count as he only had 1. If he could hit more, I'd have no problems keeping him with Whitney.

#46 ZACK STORTINI - (4) He took a high stick to the face and for some reason was sent off too. I don't get it. What did he do ref?  His ass was stapled and only played 3:19. Why have a 4th line if they don't play?

#49 THEO PECKHAM - (4) He took a dumb penalty in the 3rd by knocking Henrik on his ass and was lucky they didn't score. At the time of it happening, it was the Bad Timing Penalty for the Oilers. He just gave up way too much momentum by doing that. While I like to see Hank knocked down, wrong time to do it. He had 2 hits and 1 shot. He needs more solid hits and he needs to make people afraid to go near him. He failed to do that tonight.

#67 GILBERT BRULE - (0) DNP (Sick)

#77 TOM GILBERT - (5) He was not really noticeable out there. 2 blocked shots is down from his usual 4 per game and while he did play 20:08, he only fired 2 shots. 1 hit the net, the other missed. If he's not offensive, then what is he? Useless?

#83 ALES HEMSKY - (0) DNP (Injured Groin)

#89 SAM GAGNER - (3) JEERS Oh boy! Here I thought he was going to have a great game. Was I ever wrong. He was -2 by nights end and for the #1 center, 1 shot, 1 takeaway and 1 blocked shot just isn't good enough. Especially when he plays 22:01. He went 7/13 for 35% on faceoffs. He just couldn't win against Malhotra. Boo to you Sammy.... boo to you!

#91 MAGNUS PAAJARVI - (4) He had an OK game. If only he could find that 4 point game he had at the start of the year. That MPS was awesome. This one, not so much. While I won't knock him a whole lot, he really needs to find his groove. Maybe ask Stella? He had 2 shots, 1 giveaway and a blocked shot.

---------------------------------------

BAD TIMING PENALTY (What is a Bad Timing Penalty?)

Theo Peckham - His 3rd period penalty where he knocks Hank on his ass sent the Canucks on a momentum swing. They didn't score on the PP, but the Oilers were reeling after that for sure.

#2 JIM VANDERMEER - (N/A) He was hurt after playing 1:32. They say it is an ankle injury.

#4 TAYLOR HALL - (5) He was one of the better Oilers tonight (that's not saying much). He had a team high 3 shots. He hustled out there and didn't get much help from his linemates. He was out chanced 4/7.

#5 LADISLAV SMID - (4) He was average at best. He ended the night -1 and really did nothing on the stats sheet even though he played 22:12.

#6 RYAN WHITNEY - (4) JEERS He was not very good in my eyes, yet managed to be on the plus for chances (6/4). Go figure. Hence the score of 4 and not a 3. He had a team high and a season high 6 giveaways. He had 2 hits and had 3 takeaways.

#10 SHAWN HORCOFF - (0) DNP (Injured)

#13 ANDREW COGLIANO - (4) JEERS Cogs stunk. Even with Renney changing up the lines, he still stunk. He was -2, had 2 giveaways, had no shots, 1 hit and 1 takeaway. On the plus side, he went 6/6 for 50% on faceoffs (which is good for his standards).

#14 JORDAN EBERLE - (5) He was the only Oiler player to score. It came with 4 seconds left in the game and I suppose we should be happy about that. He also contributed 2 of the 22 team giveaways.

#16 COLIN FRASER - (2) JEERS Did he even play? Not noticeable at all. 10:38 of playing time resulted in no shots, 3 hits and 1 blocked shot. I can think of two words when I watch him play... LIAM REDDOX

#22 JF JACQUES - (2) JEERS He was brutal as well. He lines guys up for big hits and misses. He hits the boards more often than players. Someone needs to tell him to slow down and actually hit a guy. Way more effective than missing a check. In 9:49 of ice time, he registered nothing but 3 hits. And Stortini sits for this slug? WTF?

#23 LINUS OMARK - (3) JEERS He was brutal 5 on 5. Zero chances for. He had 1 blocked shot and a giveaway. Not a special night like the last one. Can he improve or is he another Rob Schremp? I'm betting he can improve.

#26 KURTIS FOSTER - (3) JEERS He tried to get shots to the net but just couldn't. He had 4 that were blocked before hitting the net. So because of that he had zero chances on paper. He did pick up an assist on the Eberle goal.

#27 DUSTIN PENNER - (4) Penner was expected to lead this team and failed for the most part. He tried but it wasn't enough. He took 2 shots, 2 giveaways, 1 blocked shot and he was 3/6 for scoring chances. He also picked up an assist on Eberle's goal. He went 5/4 for 56% on faceoffs. A team high. He was also -2 with Cogliano.

#28 RYAN JONES - (4) He was so-so. He tried hard to do something out there and with no avail. I liked his effort, but if all else fails, hammer some players with hits. He didn't do that. He had 1 shot and 2 blocked shots in 14:22 of ice time.

#33 STEVE MACINTYRE - (0) DNP (Healthy Scratch)

#35 NIKOLAI KHABIBULIN - (0) DNP (Backup)

#40 DEVAN DUBNYK - (7) BEERS He was pretty good. Both goals were hard for him to save so I can't really blame him. He kept this game respectable and did his best to not make this a blowout. WHat more can you ask for? Well... he could have scored I suppose. Kidding!

#42 RYAN O'MARRA - (4) His line sucked like all the Oilers lines did. I liked O'Marra though. I think he's a way better player than Fraser and I would hope that the Oilers see the light as well. He threw 4 hits and had a blocked shot. From my memory, he lost faceoffs because h\the guys he was with failed to win the second battles to gain possession. Hence his 2/5 for 29% faceoff record. Unlike Omark, I can see great potential in O'Marra.

#43 JASON STRUDWICK - (0) DNP (Healthy Scratch)

#46 ZACK STORTINI - (0) DNP (Healthy Scratch)

#49 THEO PECKHAM - (4) Not really a standout like games past but I won't complain. However, I don't think Don Cherry would approve of this game. He had 4 hits (good), 1 giveaway and a takeaway. I understand that he's labeled a physical guy, so when the team is sinking like tonight, beat the crap out of someone. Get the team fired up. That's what your here for.

#67 GILBERT BRULE - (4) He was better tonight. He laid out a team high 5 hits and had 1 shot on goal. He also contributed to the giveaway cause by coughing up 2 himself. He somehow out chanced the Canucks 3/2 and when Renney changed the lines in the 3rd, he was promoted. Hard work can pay off, even when your not that good. His dumb moment of the game? The boarding call. He deserved that one.

#77 TOM GILBERT - (4) JEERS He was out chanced by a 2/7 margin. Not good enough for one of the "best" Oilers defencemen. "He had 1 shot, 1 hit, 2 giveaways, 2 takeaways and 2 blocked shots. I would expect more from anyone else too if they played 25:57 like Gilbert did.

#83 ALES HEMSKY - (0) DNP (Injured Groin)

#89 SAM GAGNER - (3) JEERS He has a chance to be "the guy"and he failed to do so tonight. I expect a ton out of this kid and maybe that's my problem. He's still just a kid. He's not meshing with Hall and Eberle and I don't expect him to be on that line next game. He took two penalties and tried to take 5 shots in the game, but only 1 manged to hit the net. He went 6/9 for 40% on faceoffs.

#91 MAGNUS PAAJARVI - (3) JEERS He tried out there. He even had a penalty shot that looked slow motion and predictable. No way he was fooling Luongo with that move. He only registered 2 shots. 1 was on net and the other was a miss. No hits, no nothing. A tad disappointed with MPS.

---------------------------------------

BAD TIMING PENALTY (What is a Bad Timing Penalty?)

Theo Peckham - Gilbert Brule just took a stupid boarding penalty and with only a few seconds burned off on that penalty, Peckham (I'm sure not on purpose) high sticked a Canucks player. That gave the Canucks a 5 on 3 for a minute forty something. Lucky for those two, the Canucks failed to score.

#2 JAMES VANDERMEER - (0) DNP (Healthy scratch)

#4 TAYLOR HALL - (5) He didn't do a whole lot tonight. He took 2 shots and had a giveaway. Not a stand out night like he's been dishing out lately. I was starting to think that the physical play scares him a little.

#5 LADISLAV SMID - (6) He had 2 assists and really should have been +3, but he went off before the 3rd goal was scored even though he was awarded an assist on that play. Funny huh? He played 17:07 and he had 1 shot, 3 hits, 1 blocked shot, but tied for a team worst, 3 giveaways. His 3 hits led the team in that category. Just too bad about the giveaways.

#6 RYAN WHITNEY - (5) He was OK. While he did look less sloppy and a little more comfortable with the puck, I didn't think he was very good. He needs to assert himself more. Take charge of that back end. 2 shots, 1 hit (not enough), 3 blocked shots (tied for a team high) and 2 giveaways.

#10 SHAWN HORCOFF - (5) Horcoff was below average. In his 20 minutes in ice time, he only had 1 shot on goal. He was 6/8 for 43% on faceoffs. I hope Cappy can play better against the Wings on Friday. This line needs to chip in.

#13 ANDREW COGLIANO - (7) BEERS It seems like the line change was a good one. Penner seems to fire these guys up. Cogliano picked up 2 assists tonight and on top of that, he made plays. He was more than just a fast player. One of the great plays was the play to Brule for the one timer goal. Dekes a few guys and tosses Brule a beauty for a nice tine time goal. Even on the Penner goal, that was a result from Cogliano's hard work. Cogliano needed a game like this.

#14 JORDAN EBERLE - (5) Not a great game. He made some nice plays and looked OK, but he needed to play like he has been. While the line was decent on scoring chances, they failed to connect.

#16 COLIN FRASER - (6) Much, much better game. His penalty kill was great. He was 5/6 for 45% on faceoffs. He also blocked 3 shots and had a takeaway and a hit. All this in only 10:03 of ice time. His downside? The 2 giveaways.

#22 JF JACQUES - (0) DNP (Injured)

#26 KURTIS FOSTER - (3) He was not very good. He blew so many plays it was getting redundant. He did take 3 shots, but none found the back of the net.

#27 DUSTIN PENNER - (6) He scores on a nice wrap around on Luongo. That whole shift he was a force. He powered his way around there and after a nice hit by Cogliano, Pens scoops the puck and scores. His penalty shortly after that was really high and was unnecessary. Not sure what he was thinking with that?

#28 RYAN JONES - (6) He surprised the Oiler fans and himself with a dirty goal in the 3rd. It helped get the ball rolling and the 4th line made things happen. The 4th line was also on the ice for the fluke winner. So even though that sucked, this was a much different line than how they were a few games ago. He had 3 shots in 7:19 of ice time.

#33 STEVE MACINTYRE - (0) DNP (Healthy scratch)

#35 NIKOLAI KHABIBULIN - (5) The winning goal was a joke. It infuriates me to think about it. Maybe for that slit second he stopped watching the puck? A weak backhand trickles through the whole zone and past Khabi. Tough to go out that way. all game was was 50/50. 50% good. Made great reads and some big saves. But the other 50 was not that good. He was torched in the 1st for 2 goals. Sure the team sucked, but 2 out of the 3 he could have made the save, nevermind the winner. Ugh!

#40 DEVAN DUBNYK - (0) DNP (backup)

#43 JASON STRUDWICK - (4) Average Strudwick type of game. I have nothing to say about him other than I don't like him much as a player. Bring up Shawn Belle.

#46 ZACK STORTINI - (6) He played decent. He had some real good shifts. He picked up his first point of the season with an assist on the Jones goal. He also had a couple of hits and a shot.

#49 THEO PECKHAM - (4) Peckham was not all that great tonight. He was killed in chances and was -1. He didn't really play all that physical like he does, so he was largely ineffective. To be fair, he did play against the Sedins a lot.

#67 GILBERT BRULE - (7) BEERS Brule scores the 3rd and tying goal. Cogs make some nice moves and with a sweet pass to Brule, he scored a bomber. He has found that chemistry with Cogliano and Penner and they seem to be heading in a good direction. He was +2 with the goal and had 2 takeaways as well.

#77 TOM GILBERT - (4) Not his best game. He logged a ton of time (24:41) and fired 7 shots in total (only 1 hit the net) but his 3 giveaways are getting very common. He lost the puck on the Canucks blue line and had to take a penalty on the backcheck. I wasn't a fan of his tonight.

#83 ALES HEMSKY - (4) JEERS He was nailed all game. I started to feel sorry for him after a while. I'm a little surprised that none of his teammates sent a message back. He's the "best" player. I didn't see anyone engage Alberts. He was out chanced all game. Not his best. But he did try.

#89 SAM GAGNER - (4) JEERS He was the same as Hemsky. He was 8/11 for 42% on the faceoffs. Also like Hemsky, he tried but came up short.

#91 MAGNUS PAAJARVI - (4) JEERS He was also part of the suck line. I'd expect a better game on Friday.

Khabibulin returns to action tonight after a long summer of jokes and burns. I, much like everyone else just want to move on and get down to some hockey. Tonight we will see where he is in his process of recovery (alcohol and injury).

Linus Omark moves up to the 2nd line to play with Brule and Penner. This should be good to see what he can do with some better linemates. Keep an eye on #23.

We also get our first glimpse of Jared Aulin. Who is Jared Aulin and what makes him so special? We get to find out tonight.

#2 JAMES VANDERMEER - (7) Surprisingly he was good. He had some PP time and played a very physical game with Peckham. Watching those two together, I can easily see that as the Oilers 3rd pairing. They were scary to play against.

#4 TAYLOR HALL - DNP

#5 LADISLAV SMID - DNP

#6 RYAN WHITNEY - (8) BEERS: Whitney had a three assist night. He played a pretty good game and was solid all night long. He a lot of the small things right and he helped make Petry look invisible.

#10 SHAWN HORCOFF - (8) BEERS: Horcoff looks like a new man. He's got his wheels back and his eye for finding people is back on track. Horcoff proved with his play tonight and his words and work ethic in the past few weeks, he's ready to lead this team. No doubt, Shawn Horcoff should and will be the captain of this team.

#12 ALEXANDRE GIROUX - (8) BEERS: He was paired with Horcoff and Eberle. This line seemed to work and a large part of it was Giroux and he crafty ways of handling and distributing the puck. He made a very strong case for himself tonight. I want to see more of Giroux.

#13 ANDREW COGLIANO - DNP

#14 JORDAN EBERLE - (7) His poise is crazy. He held the puck where most NHL players would panic and dump it. Eberle is the real deal. He may not be hyped like Hall or flashy like Omark, but Eberle will grow into a pretty full package. He plays well with Horcoff.

#16 COLIN FRASER - DNP

#20 BRAD MORAN - (6) I thought that he was OK. I personally didn't notice him a whole lot.

#22 JF JACQUES - Injured

#25 BEN ONDRUS (8) - BEERS: Earlier in the day I said that Ondrus will be one of the next ones to go home. Not after that performance. Ondrus played like a powerhouse. He crashed and banged. He shot at the right times. He played like he wanted a spot on the team. How can he not get another look? Boy was I wrong.

#26 KURTIS FOSTER - DNP

#27 DUSTIN PENNER - DNP

#28 RYAN JONES - DNP

#29 MARTIN GERBER - (8) He played well. He didn't get scored on and I thought he stood out as the better goalie out of him and Luongo. The OKC Barons are in good hands with Gerber.

#33 STEVE MACINTYRE - (7) This might be the highest mark Big Mac ever gets. But no word of a lie, he's 100 times better than the last time I seen him. The Canucks had a more skilled team and he didn't look bad. He's an improved guy. He may just be able to play more than 3 minutes a game.

#35 NIKOLAI KHABIBULIN - DNP

#36 GREGORY STEWART (8) - I really didn't know much, nor do I still, but tonight he impressed the hell out of me. He busted his ass and he managed to score a breakaway PP goal. It was a beauty. I think Stewart has earned another look.

#38 JEFF DESLAURIERS - DNP

#40 DEVAN DUBNYK - (5) He didn't have a lot of shots and when he did, one of them was a pretty terrible softie. I'm sure he will bounce back. I can only guess how it must suck coming in half ways through a game.

#41 TAYLOR CHORNEY - (6) He was serviceable. He did make some great plays like knocking a Canuck down and prevented a breakaway. He's really in need of another solid AHL year. Much like Peckham.

#42 RYAN O'MARRA - (6) He was also serviceable. I don't get (by watching him on TV) why some folks think he's going to make the Oilers. No chance. The best part of his game was getting involved in that fight. I guess we will see what happens to him but I wouldn't be shocked if he's in OKC.

#43 JASON STRUDWICK - DNP

#46 ZACK STORTINI - (6) He had flashes of grinding it out and being a hard guy to play against. But to me, as the game wore on, I noticed him less even though Renney rolled the 4 lines. Storts needs to play like his job is on the line.

#49 THEO PECKHAM - (7) He played very well with Vandermeer. He plays a really gritty hard nosed game and wants to engage other players. That's what the Oilers need, but is Peckham ready? I'm not 100% sure.

#54 CHRIS VANDE VELDE - (8) He played on a line with MacIntyre and Ben Ondrus. This was the supposed 4th line. Vande Velde had an assist on Ondrus' 1st goal of the game and he scored the 2nd goal of the game. I would think he gets another look.

#56 TEEMU HARTKAINEN - (5) I didn't find him special at all. But I do want to see him in one more game.

#57 COLIN MACDONALD - (5) He had some good hits and was serviceable. He's not making the team.

#58 JEFF PETRY - (6) He played well. How can you not when Whitney is on fire? Petry will get another good year in OKC to develop. He is coming along nicely.

#67 GILBERT BRULE - DNP

#77 TOM GILBERT - DNP

#81 JAKE TAYLOR - (5) He was OK. Nothing to brag about. He's another guy who will help the Barons.

#83 ALES HEMSKY - DNP

#89 SAM GAGNER - DNP

#91 MAGNUS PAAJARVI - DNP

-------------------------------------

BAD TIMING PENALTY

Alex Giroux - His kneeing penalty resulted in the Canucks first goal of the game. That goal caused a momentum shift and the Canucks stormed back. Luckily for Giroux, the Oilers found a way to win.

Paajarvi Starts Off Fast / Oilers Rookies Win First Young Stars Game

No need for a parade yet, but it sure was damn nice to watch an Oilers game again. The win was a bonus. The Oilers rookies beat the Canucks rookies 4-1 with 2 goals from Magnus Paajarvi. Tyler Pitlick and Jordan Eberle each scored one goal. For those wondering, Taylor Hall had the assist on the Eberle goal.

Well the feed for the game was terrible. Gene Principe sounded like he was yelling all the time and his yelling was squealing. Ugh! It was ear bleeding terrible. But to see the Stockton Thunder's Mike Benton there with Gene was cool. Mike is a good guy and it was nice to see him included in the Young Stars tournament.

At one point the Canucks website said to clear your cache and the stream would work better. I tried it and it did work better. So remember that for Tuesday's game against the Flames.

Paajarvi was very good. His speed made him hard to contain. This guy is going to make the team for sure this year. He looks determined and ready.

Tyler Pitlick was also good tonight. Very noticeable. Great draft choice by the Oilers.

Alex Plante played in all types of situations and didn't look out of place. He's very much improved from the last time I seen him and is looking like he's going to be a force with the OKC Barons this year.

Eberle and Hall garnered a lot of attention from the Canucks but still managed to hook up for a goal. In the early part of the game Hall looked like he was in a playoff game but faded near the end of the game. Good chemistry with Eberle. No doubt they play on the same line when they make the Oilers.

Olivier Roy made some huge saves, but the goal that the Canucks scored was a terrible softy. While Roy did play well and looked good, he was shaky on the soft low shots.

Last thoughts. I found it dumb that Hall wasn't wearing #4, that Eberle isn't wearing #14 and Paajarvi didn't wear #91. Why not? It's their numbers.

Can't wait till Tuesday. Make sure you come back and enjoy the TweetCast vs the Calgary Flames.
