The Day(s) That Was

Well the Oilers did pick up a pretty good player in Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson with the 10th pick overall of last night's 1st round selections. I'm sure we will all be happy by 2010 with this kid. He has the size that people were wanting and he seems confidant in his skills. The fingers are crossed and I hope this works out for the Oilers and MPS.

Who did the Oilers take in the other rounds? These people:

2nd round, 40th overall - Anton Lander, C, Timra (Swe)
3rd round, 71st overall - Troy Hesketh, D, Minnetonka (USHS)
3rd round, 82nd overall - Cameron Abney, RW, Everett (WHL)
4th round, 99th overall - Kyle Bigos, D, Vernon (BCHL)
4th round, 101st overall - Toni Rajala, RW, Ilves Jr (Fin)
5th round, 133rd overall - Olivier Roy, G, Cape Breton

Who are they you ask? No idea. Great reporting here huh? Ahh... I will do some intense research to find out some info.

Until then... keep you fingers crossed that this pans out for the Oilers.

Where The F*ck Have You Been?

That is the question I have been asked a lot lately. So where is Ray? Where?

I've been around, tossing out some smart ass comments on the Nation and what not. But it was really hard for me to care about hockey once the Oilers season was over. I watched the playoffs and enjoyed them, but I write about the Oilers. And as the mighty Oilers were done, so was I.

But the draft always gets me excited. I expect a lot and usually walk away a little bummed out. However last night was no exception. When we couldn't move up to get Kane, I was a little concerned. But once Glennie was taken I was really distraught. Now, I understand that the Oilers did get a good pick. (Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson). I just didn't know much about him so I wasn't jumping up and down. However, upon a little looking around, he is going to be a good player for this club.

At the end of the day, I am a baby who wanted one of two guys. I must learn to deal with disappointment. Just as I wrote that, Brodziak is traded to the Wild for two draft picks. ~Sweet! Another guy that takes faceoffs that we don't need.~

Anyways...

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am still alive and that I still care about all of you. :)

July 1st better be a good Oiler day.

My Playoff Picks (Conference Finals)

Well. That last round made me look pretty dumb. All in all, there was some real good series played that last round. Wash/Pitts was awesome. Ducks/Wings also freaking great. And Bos/Car was intense right up till the last minute. Chicago beating the crap out of the Nucks was one of my favs. Wow! What a round indeed.

Well here is my picks for this round.

Chicago wins in 6
Pittsburgh wins in 6

There you have it folks. The winning picks

*Not for betting use. You may lose your money with these picks. I have.*

My Playoff Picks (2nd Round)

Well folks. I did ok with my picks in the 1st round. The only series I was completely correct on was the Hawks/fLames. Either I'm good a guessing or really lucky but the only series I was completely wrong on was the Ducks/Sharks. So much for my pick of SJ in the finals.

According to the pool that I am in, I managed 8 points out of a possible 16. I need to get the amount of games right. On to round two...

-------------

Chicago beats Vancouver in 6

Anaheim beats Detroit in 6

-------------

Boston beats Carolina in 6

Washington beats Pittsburgh in 6

*fingers crossed*

Oilers Jambalaya #4 (Random Thoughts)

Wow!

A lot has changed in the last week or so. MacT is gone. Tambo steps up. Rumors start swirling. Who's leaving next? Oilers have 10th pick overall at this years NHL draft.

Absolute crazy I tell you.

Everyone is talking about who is going to be the next coach here in Oil Country. At this point of the season, who cares? There is a lot of months before the next season starts and the playoffs are just starting. Why are we getting all worked up about nothing? I don't know? Do you?

All I do know... I DON'T WANT MIKE CRAWFORD! Oops. Did I screw up your name Marc? No big deal right? I'll get Alex Hemsky to sign a shirt for you to make up for it. Can you imagine what Hemmer would do if he taps him on the pads and says, "Ok Alex. Your turn." And Hemmer looks at him and cracks him over the head with his stick. "Help me Rolofson", Crawford yells as Roli turns his back and skates away. OMG! That could be terrible for the team. BBMT (Bring Back MacT) jk. Calm down.

-------------

I guess the next "big thing" for the Oilers is the 2009 NHL Draft. The Oilers pick 10th this year for the first time ever. If we picked up Hemsky at 13th, then we should be able to find a guy that is decent. *fingers crossed* I am a believer of picking the best available player for the first two rounds anyways. After that, whatever. Go random. Pick with your gut. There just may be a Zetterberg out there for us.

Here is a look at the top 15 players available from TSN. Anyone of these kids could be an Oiler by next year. Who do you like the best? Don't say Tavares either.

-------------

If the Oilers are going to move forward then I suppose we look at leadership. I am a strong believer that we also need a change in out Captain department. Moreau has done a decent job but this team needs a new direction. Now all season I have said how I would like to see Souray as our C. I still do feel that way, but I have been thinking about this a lot lately. Why not be like Chicago and name Gagner the Captain? It seems to be working for them and if anything we can look at Vancouver and Detroit as examples. They are teams that made a young guy a Captain and built around them for years. Yzerman and Linden. Why not the Oilers? Clearly, Gagner was the one that was most bothered by not making the playoffs. (Souray as well as he wasn't available for comment after the last day.) Give Gagner a shot with the C. I won't make us worse. NNC.
