Big Sexy Is No Longer Sexy!

The Oilers finished the season off on a very low note, dropping a 7-2 decision to the Mighty Ducks. Deslauriers looked dreadful and the whole team stumbled into the off season. But a few hours after the end of the game, Sheldon Souray's official "I want a trade" demand comes out via a story from Spector at Sportsnet.

So aside from some nice timing, this story makes the artist formerly known as Big Sexy look like an absolute diva. Wah wah wah, no one is holding my hand. Wah wah wah, no one is calling me even after I was selfish, went after Iginla, broke my hand and ruined any chance to move me before the trade deadline. Wah wah wah, they demanded I play hurt. Wah wah wah, I could have went elsewhere for more money.

Honestly, this interview makes it more difficult to trade you Sheldon. Why are you going public? You're not endearing yourself to anyone. I don't know if any of this temper tantrum is accurate but I do not like the public thrashing you are doing of my Oilers. Sure I may not sure agree with the management of this team from time to time, but this seems like a jilted boyfriend who is upset that his girl (Oilers) don't want him anymore.

So if players are leaving with a smile on their faces, don't worry Sheldon, the fans will be smiling when you finally depart. Enjoy doucheland with Prongs.

Edit: The more I think about this article, the more uneasy I am about the direction of this team. Katz needs to look into this and if they are pressuring players to return from injury too soon (which has made the rumor mill), that is completely unacceptable and heads should roll.

  1. If management is the reason why Souray and possibly others have left town it's time to question the management of this team and not the players. If the players are being challenged by management to play hurt as Souray claims maybe this is the reason why the Oilers suffered so many lost games to injury this season. If Katz is serious about icing a winning team he may have to look at firing off his management staff in order to attract higher caliber players to this city and to this team. If it has nothing to do with the players, the city or the pay the only possible problem could be the management team and it's time to fix that problem.

  2. The more I think about this interview, the more concerned I am about this team. I think some of Souray's interview is bullshit (offered more money elsewhere?) and selfish whining (they gave up on me) but there has been questions about injury and playing through them in the past. Katz really needs to look into all of this and get to the bottom of it. I don't know if he has the balls to clean house.

  3. Excellent scoop Scarlett. Great job.

*sigh* say it ain't so Shelly???

Thank god we have Ryan Whitney. Here is a quote from him last night.

“I’m really excited for next year with our draft pick and the young guys that are going to be here. It’s going to be a better year. It’s going to be really good.”

That is the kind of guy I want on the team.

  5. @Anonymous: I don't think Sheldon Souray is a douche bag. Could he have handled it a little better? Yes.
