Taylor Chorney Has Been Claimed!

In what I'll call a stunning move, the St. Louis Blues have claimed Oilers defenceman Taylor Chorney off of waivers. Sounds like he's going to get a good shot with the Blues. Good for him, bad for the OKC Barons. They were expecting him to help the team out.

Good luck Taylor!

BEERS & JEERS PLAYER GRADES

The Cult of Hockey Grading System:
10 perfect game, 9 extraordinary, 8 great, 7 good, 6 above average,
5 average, 4 below average, 3 poor, 2 terrible, 1 deserves to be in minors.

#2 JIM VANDERMEER - (6) He was OK. He played 21:05 and had a team high 5 hits. Not his best game lately (3 giveaways), but still worthy enough that I wasn't screaming for a call up.

#4 TAYLOR HALL - (8) BEERS He was awesome again! He scored the OT winner and really busted his hump all over the ice all game long. It took 20 games, but the real Taylor Hall is starting to show. He took 4 shots on goal and had a team high 3 takeaways.

#5 LADISLAV SMID - (6) He was pretty solid. I'm still missing his nasty side, but he's progressing. Maybe the switch to the 3rd pairing was a good idea for him and Foster? He had 2 blocked shots and a hit.

#6 RYAN WHITNEY - (6) He logged a lot of time again and made the nice pass to Hall for the game winner. He had a team high 4 blocked shots and that's rare. He can play in any situation and for the most part, handles it all pretty well.

#10 SHAWN HORCOFF - (7) BEERS He is the luckiest out of all the Oilers. He plays with Hall and Eberle and as far as I can hear, not one complaint about his big dollar contact. Is he earning it or is he just riding the rookie wave to greatness? He went 9/5 for 64% on the faceoff circle. That's pretty good. If he would have earned an assist or a goal, he would have been bumped up to an 8.

#13 ANDREW COGLIANO - (5) Decent game tonight from my eyes, but a little stinky when looking at the number totals. Only 1 shot, 1 hit, 1 takeaway 1 blocked shot and 2 giveaways. He's been better.

#14 JORDAN EBERLE - (6) He was OK. He should have been a 7, but his 3 giveaways is glaring at me. He took 5 shots in total with 3 hitting the net. It's strange to see how mature he is on the ice and I would assume that playing with Horcoff is going to age him a little. Meaning he's going to be a vet presence sooner than the other rookies. He's slick.

#16 COLIN FRASER - (6) On the 4th line with Storts and Jacques. He did find himself with 1:07 of PK time. Best of all forwards. He dropped the gloves with Della Rovere and did pretty good. Nice to see some emotion form Fraser even if he only plays 6:14 a night.

#22 JF JACQUES - (4) He was average at best. The supposed BIG HITTER doesn't hit very often. His physical presence is lacking the physical. Or the presence. He did lay out 2 hits and 2 blocked shots, but I always expect more from the tough guys.

#26 KURTIS FOSTER - (5) I didn't mind Foster. He sure isn't what the media hyped him to be. I have been expecting that Souray bomb shot from him and so far, I have only seen it once (not tonight). He had 1 shot, 1 hit and 1 giveaway.

#27 DUSTIN PENNER - (6) Renney said after the game that Penner was not feeling well. I suppose looking back you could tell, but I still liked how he played. He had 2 good shots on goal and when he drives to the net, good things happen.

#28 RYAN JONES - (7) BEERS He's another guy that I have been flogging lately. Tonight he was great. I liked him. Really. He scores the games opening goal in the 3rd period and played well all night despite looking like the 3rd wheel with Gagner and Paajarvi. Jones had a team high (with Vandermeer) 5 hits. If he keeps playing like this, a call up might never be made.

#29 MARTIN GERBER - (0) DNP (With OKC Barons)

#33 STEVE MACINTYRE - (0) DNP (Healthy Scratch)

#35 NIKOLAI KHABIBULIN - (8) BEERS He was on his way to another shutout when, you guessed it, another former Oiler Eric Brewer scores to tie the game. He played well all night and did come up with some key saves. I was worried that he's going to get overplayed again, but he seems ready to come back not like Hemsky.

#40 DEVAN DUBNYK - (0) DNP (Backup)

#43 JASON STRUDWICK - (0) DNP (Healthy Scratch)

#45 SHAWN BELLE - (0) DNP (With OKC Barons)

#46 ZACK STORTINI - (4) He was OK. He crashed and banged but still needs to do more I think.  He only had 1 hit to his name. He played 6:24.

#49 THEO PECKHAM - (6) He took a puck in the mouth in the first, was stitched up, and then came back and finished the game. Character that guy has. While he didn't register a lot of stats on paper, he is a welcomed participant. He can play tough. He out chanced the opposition 8/5.

#67 GILBERT BRULE - (6) He was decent. Not much to complain about. He took 4 shots and was 3/3 for 50% on faceoffs. He filled in for Horcoff when Horcs had skate issues and seemed like a fit with the rookies.

#77 TOM GILBERT - (6) He led the team in ice time with 24:48. All that ice time is sure to hurt him somehow. Oh yes... 3 giveaways. He didn't lead the team in blocked shots tonight and that to me, is strange. I have seen him play better even though he out chanced the Blues.

#83 ALES HEMSKY - (0) DNP (Injured Groin)

#89 SAM GAGNER - (7) BEERS His chemistry with Paajarvi is growing. Gagner led that line all game long and with the Jones goal, marked another point for Gagner. It is weird that he didn't take a single shot. If you are wondering, I gave him a 7 for his willingness to compete. Replace Hemsky with Jones and this line will rock.

#91 MAGNUS PAAJARVI - (7) BEERS Another good game. He also picked up an assist on the Jones goal. He had 3 quality shots and a takeaway. He's really been improving these last few games. I like that he's gelling with Gagner.

--------------------

THE MEAT AND POTATOES

The Good:

- Devan Dubnyk was back between the pipes and he played pretty good. He wasn't knock em' dead, but he played pretty solid. I was glad to see him back. It's too bad the team in front of his sucks.

- The Nilsson/Potulny/O'Sullivan line was the best Oiler line. While Nilsson really didn't so much, the other two were great. They created the Oilers first goal and kept the pressure on the Blues all game.

- I like Dean Arsene, but he really needs to learn to fight.

- Anytime one of the guys drops the gloves I give him props. Pouliot is one of those guys tonight. He laid some good punches to Colaiacovo's helmet. I'm willing to bet his hand hurts after that.

- Gilbert and Whitney both played over 25 minutes again this game. They are leading the Oilers down the stretch in ice time.

- Andrew Cogliano had 4 hits. Too bad he wasn't a big guy to make those hits hurt.

- Potulny and Brule were the best on the Oilers squad for faceoffs with 65% and 67% respectively. Potulny also blocked 5 shots.

- Jason Strudwick played his game with 3 hits and 4 blocked shots.

- O'Sullivan had a team high, 6 shots on net.  He also had 4 missed shots. That's ten in total. Wow!

The Not So Good:

- What's to complain about? 30th place is almost a lock. Now if only the gods don't screw the team with the 2nd overall pick.

The Side Dish:

- The Springfield Falcons lost in a ass kicking to the River Rats 5-1. Jordan Eberle had one assist in the loss. Read the recap here.

- The Stockton Thunder on the other hand had a barn burner of a game. They won a thrilling 6-5 game. The recap is here.

Beers & Jeers #110 / Oilers Game Recap vs St. Louis Blues (1/28/10)

Welcome to Oilers Jambalaya - An Edmonton Oilers Hockey Blog. Beers & Jeers is a dual collaboration between Smokin' Ray and Paq Twinn. We hope you enjoy our Edmonton Oilers full game recap.

------------------

- Who's Out? Who's in? Mike Comrie and Gilbert Brule will draw back into the lineup tonight which means that two need to sit. Stortini and O'Sullivan drew the short straws for tonight. The lines have changes slightly from last game. Staios and Smid are still out (injured) and won't play. They both suffer from concussion symptoms. No word on when they will be back in the lineup.

The Edmonton Oilers current Man Games Lost is 297. Ouch!

- Don't forget to vote on the poll above this post. Your opinion matters to me. Please vote.

BAD TIMING PENALTY

None -

------------------

BEERS

Dustin Penner - The big guy was pretty good tonight. He used his size well and made some great plays because of it.  Penner has been in a goal slump for awhile now and finally pots one. I can only imagine the relief he must have felt. He not only scored, but he also went 7W-2L for 78% on faceoffs. A few of those draws were must wins and he came through. This team needs more Dustin Penner's (when he's motivated). Good job tonight Pens, how about a cold one? Cheers!

Sam Gagner - The little guy had his foot on the gas pedal tonight. He was trying everything and even was throwing his pint sized body around. He picked up an assist on Penner's goal and that gives him 10 point in his last 12 games. He went 5W-3L for 63% on the dot and fired off 7 shots, but only 4 hit the net/goalie. I liked him tonight. I figure a frosty beer is in order. Cheers!

Gilbert Brule - For a guy that missed quite some time due to the "flu"", he was skating fast and doing all the little things right. The stats are not telling the truth on how he played. He was physical and determined. But id Brule wants to be a great NHL player, he needs to do that no matter how crappy your teammates are. Good game Brule. Cold Budweiser? Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Sheldon Souray (I liked him. He played mean and finished his checks. When the Oilers needed a boost, he provided it.), Lubomir Visnovsky (He quietly played a good game. He had 3 shots and 4 blocked shots.), Mike Comrie (He played OK. I liked his fire when he dropped the gloves. He never ceases to surprise me.), Jeff Deslauriers (While he didn't get the win, he was pretty good. I don't have much to complain about him.)

------------------

JEERS

The Entire Team - Just for losing again... Booooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): The 3rd Line (I really didn't care much for this line of Moreau, Horcoff and Pisani. While they weren't bad, they were the worst Oiler line of the night in my opinion.), JF Jacques (He had 4 hits and that's about it. He didn't agitate the Blues and he needs to do that to be effective. Hits are great, but they only get you so far.) Andrew Cogliano (From the 1st line to the 4th line just like that. He was average tonight and I'm sure it's not hard to do playing with Jacques and having limited ice time.)

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - Basically if I was grading the game for the Cult of Hockey, anyone who wasn't in the Beers section would have received a 5 or a 4.  This game was a snoozefest for the first 40 minutes then the action picked up a little and I thought that this game would go to overtime. If the only Oilers could have only busted out with one more goal. *sigh* Gagner did came close.

Both Souray and Visnovsky were terrible with giveaways, but played well in my eyes. Go figure? Grebeshkov didn't make me yell so that's a good thing. Chorney and Strudwick did OK as well. I don't know. This team is strange. Is a win ever going to happen for the Oilers? This year? In 2010?

Paq Twinn - *coming soon*

Another Adventure with Smokin' Ray Burnt - Oilers vs Blues

Well I woke up in the morning (December 21/09) excited about what is going to transpire throughout the day.  Finally we (Paq Twinn and myself) get to go to an Oiler game this year.  David Staples was kind enough to ask me if I wanted to go.  I'm not an idiot, so I said yes.  He had me at free tickets to the Edmonton Journal luxury box.  Free? SOLD!

So as I prepare myself for the day/trip ahead of me - I live in Stettler - I was trying to plan things out.  Oiler jersey? check.  Oiler hat? check.  Oilers watch? check.  All my usual nerdy Oiler paraphernalia? check. Ok, set to go.

Normally I would take our van as it's a pretty decent vehicle.  But the wife needed it to pick up the daughter at day care.  So I'm going to drive my 1991 Crown Victoria.  It's usually my "go to work car", but for that moment, it was my "get me to the Rexall car", Oilers license plate and all.  Edmonton Oilers, here I come.

So once I fuel up and get out of town it's 1:45pm.  Forty five minutes behind schedule, but that's ok, I have lots of time. It's only just over two hours to drive to Edmonton from Stettler.  So up highway 21 I go.  Roads were pretty decent.  As I'm driving along I'm listening to the OilersLunch.  The whole time I'm listening to Bob I was getting grossed out.  How much spit does he have in his mouth?  Imagine using the microphone after him? Eww.

The whole way up I'm cruising at 100 kph.  Like I said, the roads were decent.  But as soon as I turn off 21 and make my way to the Anthony Henday, I can see the traffic slowing down.  The roads were way worse here.  What the hell is going on I'm thinking. Why does everything look so different?  Ahhh... maybe it's because it's getting dark.  It's 4:20 and Paq sends me a text. "Where are you?", he asks.  "Not far away", I replied.  "Be there soon".

Before I know it, the whole jam is at a stand still.  I start to panic a little but manage to calm myself down.  I'm going to the Oilers game man.  Chill out.  Well...

I was in that line for what seemed like forever.  It was 5:49 before we started moving faster.  Figures... I get up to the crash site and the cops shut their lights off and drive away.  Just my luck.

At 6:00 pm I realise that I screwed up somewhere.  Where am I?  Why is the Anthony Henday so screwed up?  EVERYTHING IS SCREWED UP!

So I figure out where I am - almost in Spruce Grove! - and start heading back to the west - where I came from *sigh* - and it's off to Paq's house.  On the way to his place I almost spin out from black ice under an overpass by the Yellowhead casino but I managed to pull out of it.  Underwear check after that.  Minutes later some jackass in a 4x4 tries to pass everyone and almost spins out as well.  He's lucky he saved himself because there was cars all around him, including me.

So now it's 6:30pm and I finally reach Paq's house.  He jumps in and off we go to the Journal office.  Traffic is still all stupid and we manage to work our way down to downtown.  We run in and get the tickets. SWEET!

HOLY CRAP!  Look at the time.  We have 15 minutes till the puck drops.  Better hurry.  So we snake our way around the traffic and get on 118 th ave.  I ask Paq if we should just park on the west side of the tracks.  Just as I do that I decide on my own that I don't like that side of Rexall.  Ok.  I'm going to park by Axe Music (I love that place) and I feel like it's safer as it's a little better of a neighbourhood.  Did you know it costs $12 to park around there?  I was stunned.  The last time I had to park it was $8-10 to park.  So this guy waves at us and I thought, "FINALLY there is some good luck."  The spot is in front of Kid Sport.  I also like that place so if you have anything to donate to them please do so.  It's a good charity.

Anyways, so we park there and I ask him how much to park here. You know.. thinking it's $12 like the rest.  Nope.  He says it's $14.  I'm sure my eyes bugged out a little.  Then he busts into it's for charity speech.  I tell him it's ok and that I know the Kid Sport program.  Ahh, it's Christmas, I would have given him $20.

So off to the game we go.  Cross the road, past the scalpers, and up to the main doors.  By this time we are excited and can't wait to get in.  Tickets please.  No problem. Scanned and we are in. SWEET!

Random coat check.  He goes straight for Paq.  Again... no problem.  After a pretty thorough check he asks to see in his smoke pack.  Just then he looks at me and I look at him. *heart sinks* He completely forgets what was in there.  He just grabbed a pack off his counter and boogied out the door when I picked him up.  Wrong pack of smokes.  Sh*t!

As I try and throw my pack out for him to see and rip open my jacket to try and grab his attention, he shrugs me off and is only concerned with Paq.  "Come with me", he says.  *heart sinks again* They never did search me.

Just then, Gagner scores and we hear everything.  Damn it!  Gagner's my guy and I just missed his goal.  Whatever right?  We will be on our way soon.

Nope.  20 minutes later I'm told that he is banned from Rexall property for 24 hours.  "Seriously?", I ask. For one little left handed cigarette? You have got to be kidding?  You should have seen those security guards eyeing that "smoke" up.  It was like he was thinking of a way to keep it and not turn it in.  Bunch of jackasses.  Although... at this moment, we were the jackasses.  It was an honest mistake and no bad intentions were thought of.  But sh*t happens and tonight was the night.

So when a friend is in need of help, I do that.  What can I say, I'm a good friend.  Not once did I consider ditching him and going to watch the game.  Not once.  I could have, it would have been easy to do but didn't.

So I get my ticket scanned so I can get back in and out the door we go.  All the way off the property and back across the street and back to the Crown Victoria and my $14 parking spot. *palm in face* My poor $14 parking spot.  The best spot ever.

In the car we go and I tell Paq I'll drive him home.  I take the poor guy home, and at this time he feels like a pile of Calgary fLame sh*t.  On one hand I feel so bad for the guy.  On the other... I started to laugh at "our" luck.  Why does screwed up stuff always happen to us? This isn't the first time that plans have gone array.  So I drop Paq off at home - the 1st period just ended - and I'm heading back to Rexall.  All I could think about was my $14 parking spot.  Is it there?  Will the guy remember me?

Somehow no one is in my spot and I take it back like I never left.  Ok.  Time to get inside Rexall... for real this time.  I run in and as luck would have it, I found the suite as it is close to the main doors.  I walk in and finally get to meet David Staples.  What a super nice guy he is.  Very personable.  I need a beer after all that so I go and get one. Mmmmm... tastes good.

The 2nd period is just getting under way and that's ok by me.  All that driving, I'm at least going to get to watch two periods.  Yay me!  As I sit (I was actually standing because my ass was sore from driving), I couldn't help but feel bad for Paq.  He waited just as long as I had to see a game.  Here I am sitting in a luxury box, drinking a beer and he's at home, most likely not very impressed.  I text him my sympathies.

So the game kind of sucked anyways but dammit, I'm trying to have fun.  Damn! The Blues score.  Again and again. Ugh!

At least I did see Penner's goal.  I was thankful for that.  So the 2nd period is over and I better go outside to calm down a little and have a smoke.  What?  Smokin' Ray smokes?  Shocking isn't it?  So out I go.  On my way, because the doors are right there, I beat the flow of people.  Who's that over there?  There is two people in line and I thought I should check it out.

It was goaltender Sami Jo Small from the Women's Olympic Hockey team.  Sweet!  So I barely wait and it's now my turn.  I didn't know what to do so I pulled out my ticket to have her sign it (no way in hell I'm letting her write on my 1990 Bill Ranford jersey. I traded a pizza for it in the summer of 1990 with this dumbass that rented the suite at my parents house. I guess he was hungry?).  So I hand her the ticket and she signs it.

We chit chat a little and I wish her/them luck on winning gold in Vancouver.  She says thanks and I go to move on.  She then asks me if I want to see the 2002 Salt Lake City Gold medal.  What a cool looking medal.  It gave me that feeling of greatness (much like the Stanley Cup does but it's not quite the same) and right then and there I imagined both of my girls winning one together someday. Oh how sweet would that be?

Then she asks me if I want to hold it - usually it's the guy asking that question *wink* - and I say sure.  That medal was heavy. I bet around 2 pounds.  It was incredible to touch/hold it.  Very empowering.  I then say thanks again and move on so other people don't waste the whole intermission waiting for me. (Later when I get home I wonder If by touching it, did I screw my girls over at winning it down the road?  Is it the same as the Stanley Cup? Like a fool, I've touched that also in the past.)

So out to the Gretzky statue I go.  as I stand there and smoke this young couple asks me if I could take their picture with their camera.  Hey, I've been here before and I know how special that statue is to people.  So no problem, I can do that. I take two pictures of them and they thank me and off they go (they were having their own adventure.)  As I am getting ready to go back inside these two guys were just finishing smoking a joint right there in front of the building.  What?!?

They reeked like the stuff and I decide to follow them into the arena.  I chuckle to myself that these two are going to get the shake down at the door.  Nope.  Turns out they know the guy (same guy that busted Paq) at the door and high five him and continue on with whatever it is that they were going to do.  WTF is that all about?  They were just smoking the sh*t and they don't get tossed out?  Paq was doing nothing wrong and he gets punted?  Again... WHAT THE FU*K?

Whatever... I head over and get a beer and go back to the luxury box.  David Staples, Jonathan Willis, Bruce McCurdy and Lisa McRitchie are all talking hockey so I join in.  I'm sure I chimed in with some crazy Smokin' Ray thought and was given a strange look.  We then all sat down to enjoy the 3rd period.  GOILERS!

As I looked around I wondered where Katz sits.  I ask David and he laughed.  Katz rarely goes to games.  What?  The self appointed super fan doesn't attend games to a team he owns?  How is that possible? Super fan my ass.  What is it with the Oilers and their penchant for claiming stuff that isn't possible?  Super fan claims... Win the division claims... A team that competes claim... why waste your breath?  Oiler fans are not stupid.

So the Oilers gets kicked in the balls and lose 7-2 and the crowd is clearly upset.  Boo's are tossed out - including myself - and the Oilers leave the ice.  I can't believe the game is over. *sigh* We all chat it up for a bit longer and people start to disperse.  I make a joke that I don't want to leave, but I really wasn't joking.  I was sad that it was over.  What a night so far...

I thank David once again and wish him a merry Christmas and I head out the doors back to my $14 parking stall.  Well Edmonton... it's been a slice.  I call the wife and tell her I am on my way home. Off I go.

Now I'm heading east on the Yellowhead and I turn at my usual ramp to head by Sherwood Park and then down to Camrose.  The traffic is flowing and the place looks different but no matter... I keep driving.  I'm going home.

The next thing I know... I'm at the West Edmonton Mall. What? I HATE THE ANTHONY HENDAY!!! I lived in Edmonton for 5 years and never once got lost.  Never.  Now I'm lost twice in one day? *sigh*

So now that I am at WEM I turn around and screw it, I'm just going to take Highway 2 south.  The roads were not bad but every time a semi truck goes by you you go blind for 10 seconds.  Is there a corner coming up? Don't know.  Is there a car in front of me? Don't know.  That was the scariest part of the whole trip.  Twice I tried to turn off on a secondary road and get back to highway 21.  Every time the roads were the sh*ts so I would turn around and go back to #2.  I finally make it to Lacombe and slowly drive back to Stettler.

It's 2:00am and I'm tired and at home.  What a day.

It's funny because I just said to my wife that since we have had our first daughter we don't have any crazy adventures anymore. This sort of thing used to happen a lot to me.  I even told her I miss that kind of fun... well until this trip.

All in all I did have fun.  I met some great bloggers and held a gold medal.  At one point I swear I seen Hillary Duff and Paul Comrie while I was waiting for Paq at the holding area, but most likely not.  Why watch the Oilers if Mike isn't playing?

I thank David Staples once again for the opportunity to see a game in a great luxury box like that.  I appreciate it.  And I should apologise to the readers of this story if you think it's a gay story.  It was interesting while it happened.  What's the next adventure bring?

B&J #99 - Edmonton Oilers vs St. Louis Blues Recap (12/21/09)

Who's in? Grebeshkov draws back in and Strudwick sits out.

- What we have tonight is a battle of the crappy teams.  Both the Oilers and the Blues are at the bottom of the Western Conference barrel.  The loser of this game will be last in the West, nevermind the fact that St. Louis has one game in hand.  Oh the good times in Oilerville.  If you asked me if this is how I thought "our" Christmas would turn out, I would have laughed.  Who's laughing now?  Not me.  Happy Holidays. *sigh*

BAD TIMING PENALTY

Ethan Moreau - His end of the game lapse of good judgement was a huge dissapointment.  Even though it didn't really affect the outcome of the game, Ethan Moreau pulled a boner. He was knocked down by a clean hit by T.J. Oshie and responded with a trip.  Then like that wasn't stupid enough, he has to crosscheck him in the back.  And just when you think that was it, he tries to start stuff with the goalie Mason.  This guy is classy.  And he's the captain?

Welcome to Oilers Jambalaya - An Edmonton Oilers Hockey Blog. Beers & Jeers is a dual collaboration between Smokin' Ray and Paq Twinn. We hope you enjoy our Edmonton Oilers full game recap. We thank you for come here to read this recap.

- Who's Out? Who's in? Grebeshkov was rumored to be coming back in after being out for 13 games with a knee injury.  It was also rumored that both Sheldon Souray and Tom Gilbert are suffering from some sort of injuries.  However, nothing changed and the lines stayed the same.  Here is the link to the injury report.

- The Oilers continue their crazy run of road wins.  They have never won 5 straight road games all in one trip.  Does this make this current squad great?  And they did it without Hemsky?  WHAT!?!

------------------

BEERS

Dustin Penner - The flying fridge was on fire tonight.  He rattles off a 1 goal and 3 assists night.  Wow!  He made the puck look like it was metal and he was the magnet.  It was crazy.  With the Oilers trailing 3-0, Penner and his mates picked up the pace and started knocking in the puck.  Team Canada announces that he's on the short list.  Well no kidding.  All you have to do is watch him.  He can change a game much like he did tonight.  For a solid game, it's beer bong time. Cheers!

Gilbert Brule - This guy gets a wow as well.  WOW!  His uncanny chemistry with Penner continues and for the second time this year he has a two goal game.  2 goals and 1 assist to go along with a +4.  If that doesn't equal a good game then I must be a fLames fan.  Outstanding effort was shown by Brule tonight.  His first goal is what started the whole comeback.  Great game. It's Miller time. Cheers!

Sam Gagner - People are starting to wonder why he is playing on that 1st line.  I think tonight he showed why he can play there.  His vision is sick.  He sees stuff that most common NHL players can't.  He found Brule for his second goal in the high slot with a beauty pass.  The only thing cheesy about Gagner tonight was his goal. But who cares?  Take as you get them.  Good night tonight for Gags.  Frosty Budweiser? Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Jeff Deslauriers (He buckled down after a near leg injury.  He finished the game in top form.), Shawn Horcoff (He scores the winning goal and has a awesome night on faceoffs.  He was 20W-8L=73%  His shoulder was either very numb or he's feeling better.), Lubomir Visnovsky (He played pretty good tonight.  He involved in some great chances for the Oilers.), Tom Gilbert (He played well despite losing his defence partner.)

------------------

JEERS

Patrick O'Sullivan - Ok.  Enough is enough.  If I was Pat Quinn I would be grey.  Ok, so he is grey.  Well then I'd go bald because he's not playing hard and it looks like he doesn't give a crap.  Sure at times he wows us for a quick second or two.  But if Bobby Nilsson is making you look bad, then something is wrong.  If his play doesn't change soon, we can all expect his name to be caught up in rumors.  Bad game tonight. Boooooooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Ethan Moreau, Andrew Cogliano, Ryan Potulny (This line was -1 and they didn't create many chances. The worst Oiler line of the night.)

-------------------

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - He didn't play well.  He was Baaaad.

(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - Also Baaaad.  But better than Moreau.

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - I'm a typical Oiler fan.  Up until the last 11 seconds of the 2nd period I was losing it.  I was snapping.  This team SUCKS!  But then Brule scores.  Ok, life's looking better I think to myself. Then the 3rd period the team gets rolling.  Not Stortini this time.  Nope.  It's the Penner show.  The Penner/Gagner/Brule line were the Oilers tonight.  Their never give up attitude won them this game.  That was a thing of beauty to watch. This team not only screws with your mind and heart, but they can also bring ecstasy.  I love this team. GOILERS!

Paq Twinn - WOW! The Oilers looked dead in the water tonight, losing 3-0 late in the 2nd. Then the 1st line took over. Brule scored with 10 sec left in the 2nd and teamed up with Pens and Gags to take over the game in the 3rd. All together the 1st line combined for 9 points as the Oilers scored 5 unanswered goals. Horc got the game winner for the 3rd time this road trip. That's how to earn that 7 mil and shut up your critics. As much as I love the win and a record 5 consecutive road game win streak, the Oilers left something to be desired during the first 40 mins. They looked like the slumping team of 2 weeks ago, in the 3rd they were the team that won 4 in a row. This team still struggles to find consistently, but they are getting better. The power play still needs work, they were brutal tonight, though Hemmer's absence may have something to do with it. Perhaps the most impressive part of the come back tonight, was that Souray got himself ejected for filling McCreary's ear with obscenities, and left the Oil with only 5 D for the 3rd period. Maybe that is what gave this team some life cause they had none before the misconduct to Souray. I have to break up this game grade.  Game Grade: 1st/2nd D, 3rd A
